Concrete Polishing: Protection and Longevity.

Concrete Polishing by Moser Concrete Polishing & Coatings Inc. is an excellent way to enhance the look and durability of your concrete floors. Polished concrete floors are becoming increasingly popular in commercial and residential settings due to their low maintenance, durability, and cost-effectiveness. They are also environmentally friendly as they do not require any additional coatings or chemicals. Polished concrete floors are easy to clean and maintain, making them ideal for high-traffic areas such as warehouses, retail stores, and restaurants. Additionally, polished concrete floors can be customized to suit your specific needs and preferences. You can choose from a variety of colors, patterns, and finishes to create a unique look that complements your decor.

Q: Why Polish Concrete?

A: Polishing your concrete floor can transform it from a dull, gray surface to a beautiful, glossy showcase floor that you can be proud of.

The process involves grinding and smoothing the surface of the concrete, which results in a sealed and protected floor that is easy to maintain and will last for years to come. Polished concrete floors are also less-porous, which means they provide better resistance to dusting and staining. They are also more durable than other types of flooring and require minimal maintenance. Additionally, polished concrete floors reflect up to 30% more light than other flooring materials, making them ideal for large retail warehouse stores.

Polished concrete is a process that involves grinding and polishing concrete surfaces to achieve a glossy, mirror-like finish. However, each slab of concrete is different, varying in hardness, color, aggregate towel workings, or spalling. These factors dictate where to begin and how to approach starting a polish.

Polishing concrete is similar to sanding wood. We use an iron horse grinder with rotating “hockey” pucks containing levels of grit to them. The grit goes from lots of scratches/aggressive sanding to no scratches/perfectly smooth. Start low at 70’s for a salt and pepper polish (meaning the client wants light aggregate in polish smaller than ⅛-¼ an inch). If the gloss finish was wanted, we would classify it as A/B++ A-E is the level of aggregate: the grading scale is as follows – a: top layer 0 aggregate, b: 1/4in max, c 1/4-1/2in, d: 1/2in and bigger. ++ high gloss, + semi-gloss, – satin finish.

Grit is an important element in the classification. Usually, a high gloss polish is an AB++ 400 grit polish. Meaning we’re stopping our profession of tooling at 400 grit. A normal progression (A/B) then start honing the sheen with 100s hybrid 200s hybrid, and then 400 resign. Metals are diamond-infused metal tooling which scratches the concrete – grinding it down. The “100 hybrids” is a hybrid puck that is half resin, half diamond smooth but still scratching the finished surface. The “200 hybrids” is the same but one step smoother. And, the “400 resin” is all resin resulting in an almost completely smooth surface.

Our goal at Moser Concrete Polishing & Coatings Inc. is to add a “wow factor” to concrete. Through polishing, we provide our clients with high-quality polished floors that are both functional and visually appealing.

Once done, you will enjoy many years of your newly polished and beautiful concrete floor.

Do you want to enhance the beauty and durability of your concrete surfaces? Whether you need epoxy flooring, concrete sealing, polyasparatic coatings, decorative concrete, or more, Moser Concrete Polishing & Coatings Inc. is the company to call. We service both residential and commercial clients in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and surrounding areas. At Moser, we know that quality coating products are only as good as the concrete preparation. That’s why we use the best tools and techniques to ensure proper product adhesion and prolong the lifespan of your coating. Here’s how we do it:

  • First, we assess the condition of your concrete and choose the appropriate
tooling for the job. For epoxy prep, we usually use a 30 5 segment diamond
infused metal tooling paired with our iron horse grinder, a quality machine that can handle any surface.
  • Next, we grind the top layer of ‘cream’ off the concrete, exposing the scratches of the tooling. This creates a groove that allows the epoxy to bond with the concrete, just like sanding a wall before painting it.

  • Then, we clean the floor substrate with HEPA vacuums, vacuuming twice before coating. This ensures that there is no dust or debris that can interfere with the product adhesion.

  • After that, we inspect the concrete for any patches or cracks that need to be filled or closed before coating. We make sure that the floor substrate is flush and properly prepared for the next step.

  • Finally, we set up our mixing station with spill-proof tarps, mixers, buckets, and other tools. We follow the technical data sheets for each product and mix them in the correct proportions. Most 100% solid epoxies are 2:1, meaning 2 parts A to 1 part B or vice versa. We apply the product evenly and let it cure for the time allotted for re-coat.

Once done, your space will be ready for its full functional operation. You will enjoy a stunning and durable epoxy floor that can last for 30+ years with proper care.
